Pipeline steel refers to a kind of steel with special requirements used for transporting oil, natural gas and other pipelines.
Pipeline steel belongs to low-carbon or ultra-low-carbon microalloyed steel. It is a product with high technical content and high added value. The production of pipeline steel has almost applied all the new technological achievements in the metallurgical field in recent 20 years.
The performance requirements of pipeline steel mainly include the following aspects:
(1) High strength. The strength indexes of pipeline steel mainly include tensile strength and yield strength. While high strength is required, the yield ratio (the ratio of yield strength to tensile strength) of pipeline steel is also required, which is generally in the range of 0.85 ~ 0.93.
(2) High impact toughness. The pipeline steel shall have high enough impact toughness (crack initiation and crack arrest toughness). For the base metal, when the toughness value of the material meets the crack arrest requirements, its toughness can generally meet the requirements to prevent crack initiation.
(3) Low ductile brittle transition temperature. Severe geographical and climatic conditions require that pipeline steel should have sufficiently low ductile brittle transition temperature..
(4) Excellent resistance to hydrogen induced cracking (HIC) and sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSCC).
(5) Good welding performance.
